Shear strength parameters of sand-tire chips mixtures

Used tires are unwanted wastes especially in urban areas and their extent is growing every year. With the development of human societies increasing use automobiles, year millions used collected as garbage around world leave consumption cycle. However, they can be by mixing with soil, one basic building materials, to improve mechanical properties. This article discusses effect adding tire chips on shear strength properties high-friction sand. Different ratios sand-tire mixture weight (100: 0, 97.5: 2.5, 95: 5, 92.5: 7.5 90:10) were used. The Maximum Dry Density (MDD) Optimum Moisture Content (OMC) sand different chip mixtures determined standard Proctor test. Samples prepared under OMC MDD conditions direct box test was performed three axial stresses. results showed that when percentage reaches 5%, internal friction angle increased 13.8% cohesion decreased 66.4%.
